How to Get Into a Gym Routine for the New Year.

Hello! With the holidays in full-swing now, it is safe to say that this is one of the busiest times of the year. Therefore, there's always an excuse to be used to avoid going to the gym. In addition, we all know that the number one most common New Year's resolution is to get in shape. With this in mind, I thought it would be helpful to provide you some encouragement on how to beat the trend, and begin going to the gym BEFORE the new year :).

So, obviously I'm not a gym expert {by any means}, although I do consider myself to be a fairly healthy gal. I've always been athletic and into working out ever since I was younger, but let's be real, I've gone through periods {really long periods at times} where it wasn't a top priority of mine. However, earlier this year I became a member at our local gym, hired a personal trainer, and have been into a gym routine ever since {I strive to go to the gym at least 3-4 times a week}! I am no longer using a personal trainer, however I don't know how long I would have lasted if it weren't for signing up for sessions with an expert at first. Starting out with a personal trainer allowed me to feel welcomed at the gym, introduced me to all the different rooms and equipment offered, and boosted my confidence in knowing what I was doing when I got to the gym, making me feel more comfortable than I ever had in a gym-setting before.

After my personal training sessions ended, I wanted to make sure I didn't give up and lose all of the progress I had made. That's when I started taking group fitness classes (BodyPump, Total Body Conditioning, Barre, etc.), and using running apps to keep me motivated with cardio (I've used the Couch to 5K app and the Running for Weightloss app, and highly recommend them both)! Other tips I've learned to keep me going are having my gym clothes laid out, having my gym bag packed and ready to go as soon as I get home from work, and keeping my yoga mat in my car. It also helps to invest in some cute workout clothes to give yourself a little more of a confidence boost {more on this for Trendy Tuesday ;)}.
