Have Yourself a "ME" Party!

February is the month of Looooove. . . right?  Well, even if cupid hasn’t shot you with the ol' bow and arrow, it is never a bad idea to treat yourself to a “me” party. I think self care as a mom can easily become non-existent, because we don't have the time, the money, or the energy to think about ourselves. Wrongo!

Make time for yourself, because we all know; if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! So really, MAKE time and by helping yourself you help everyone around you. And when you love on yourself a little more, you will be surprised at the new energy you will find to get through your day totally revived and ready to take on the world.  Oh yes, we cannot forget about the money excuse, so I have compiled a list of 20 ways to pamper yourself for under $20.

  1. Buy yourself fresh flowers. You know, stop and smell the roses.  Studies have actually shown that fresh flowers can boost your mood. Study participants reported feeling less depressed, anxious and agitated after receiving flowers. They also demonstrated a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction. Flowers make intimate connections. The presence of flowers lead to increased contact with family and friends.  Flowers also have an immediate impact on happiness.
  2.  Get a new book, and set aside time to read. Lock yourself in the closet, the bathroom, your car. Whatever you have to do to get some quiet time and read.  Read just 5-10 min or read a whole book. Wherever that book takes you, just go there.  Check out my book list here.
  3.  Paint your nails. Be intentional about this. I know you have way to much to do to be sitting around literally waiting for paint to dry. But look, it only takes a few minutes, paint them during nap time and then breeze through a few pages of a book (see above) while waiting for them to dry.   4. Go to the park and take a walk. Pack a picnic and make half a day out of it. Just go sit outside and feel the breeze, smell the fresh air, make a snow angle (if you’re in the north).  Make it all about you and enjoy it.

  5. Go to a coffee shop. Find a cozy little coffee shop, or maybe try a new one. Order something different and just relax. Watch the people as they go about their day, sip your coffee and be the caffeinated, relaxed, beautiful person you are.

  6. Movie night! Now depending where you live in this great country this could be pushing our $20 limit if you go with your significant other.  But have you ever gone to the movies alone? Does that terrify you? One time I did, I was 8 months pregnant and away for a work training. My instructor challenged us to do something crazy and go out alone. It wasn't bad, actually I don’t mind doing things alone at all. Give it a shot, and come back and leave me a comment about how you felt.

  7. Home pedicure. I did this a lot (also while pregnant) when my feet were swelling I would just soak them in a home foot spa (like this one).  It felt amazing and it was cheaper than paying someone to do it for you. Heck, talk your partner into giving you a foot massage or maybe bribe one of your kids into it, haha.  But really you can add some bath salts or some good smelly soap and just soak for as long as your little heart desires.

  8. Take a hot bath - with a bath bomb of course. I am not much of a bath taker, but I completely understand how soothing they can be. But if you LOOOOVE your baths, check out this subscription box I found from Bath Butlers.  Pour yourself a glass of wine (or tea), light a few candles (see below) and forget about work… no seriously forget about it!

  9. Well you cannot have a hot bath without the candles right?!  I do love some good candles. Something about the warmth and walking into a room that smells so lovely and inviting is just magical.   10. Enjoy a hot tea. I usually start my drive to work in the morning with hot tea, followed by coffee (of course!).  But something about it is so relaxing to me, it just warms my belly and my soul at the same time.  Check out Lush Tea Co. for some great tea options like French Kiss, Chaicolate, and Honey Love.

  11. Bake something. Baking can be both stressful and soothing at the same time. If it stresses you out, move on, but if you love it, pull out your oven mitts, crank up the tunes and let's get to mixing.  There are so many great healthy baking recipes you can try like this Light German Chocolate Cake that is somewhat healthy and rewarding.

  12. Call a friend. You know that best friend you don't talk to nearly enough, yes her! Call her on the phone, don't message her on Facebook, don't send her a text, CALL HER! Just chat about life, reminisce about the old days and memories you have made together. Talk about N’Sync and giggle like you're twelve again. I bet you will light up with joy.

  13. Get dressed up. You know that fancy dress you have been hoarding with nowhere to wear it to? Pull it out, dust it off and get dressed up. You don't have to have anywhere to go, just get yourself all gussied up: hair, makeup, the whole nine. Snap a few pics of yourself or maybe surprise your hubby when he gets home from work.  Whatever you decide, you will look and feel like a hundred million bucks.  

  14. Take a nap.  Yes, I said it. Take a nap, like fall asleep. Do it when the kids are napping, maybe after you drop them off at school. Just find a time (probably when you feel like you should be doing something else) and sleep… you deserve it, I am giving you permission! Plus that thing that NEEDED to get done, it will still be there when you wake up, and most likely it will still be there tomorrow.  

  15. Treat your hair. This may sound silly, but hear me out. Lather your hair and scalp with coconut oil, you can wrap your hair up with cellophane or just tie it up on your head and finish cooking dinner, because we like to multitask you know. Let that oil sit for 10-15 min, then go take a shower and rinse it out.  Your hair is going to look and feel amazing, and you just did something nice for yourself.

  16. Add a face mask. While you have your hair greased, put on a pretty face mask to scare your husband and kids. I like to do this on Sunday evening, so I wake up Monday fresh and ready for the week. I found this awesome charcoal mask you can try. 

  17. Get a bottle of wine.  Maybe I should have moved this up on the list. Haha, because really you can incorporate the wine with almost all of the other options (drink wisely friends). Pour yourself a glass, turn on some music or just binge watch your favorite Netflix show.   18. Splurge on some fancy cheese. Find some fancy cheese and make a little cheese and cracker tray. You can pair this with the wine, the picnic at the park, or even the bath (Is that weird?). I would totally eat cheese and crackers in the bath.

  19.  Breakfast in bed. Make yourself a pretty plate for breakfast, pour a cup of coffee or tea and climb back in bed for an hour. Turn down the lights, pull your blankets up and treat yourself.
